The Sustainable Recycling Industries (SRI) is very pleased to witness the launch of Eco Green Waste Management (EGWM), the first association of formal recyclers in Egypt. To commemorate this launch, Mr. Ahmed Salem, Chairman of EGWM, and Mr. Mostafa Hamdan and Mr. Mohamed Abdel Khalek, Board Members, invited Martin Gasser from the Empa – Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology and Mostafa Lotfy (SRI) to the newly established EGWM headquarters and presented an overview of the e-waste situation in Egypt and related issues, such as the lack of sufficient input material for formal recyclers.

Mr. Ahmed Salem presented the association’s activities and emphasized the need for practical solutions. He accentuated the interest of EGWM to collaborate with the Cedare – Centre for Environment & Development for the Arab Region & Europe and government agencies. Furthermore, Mr. Mostafa Hamdan presented an innovative project focusing on collecting e-waste using semi-automated pick-up points.

Subsequent to the gathering at EGWM, the attendees visited El Fardous Electronic Recycling in Giza. There, they were given a tour of the recycling plant and a thorough explanation of the printed circuit boards (PCBs) recycling process, including a demonstration of the melting process to produce metal ingots from the processed PCBs.

A heartily thanks to Mr. Ahmed Salem, the whole team of EGWM and all the managers and workers of El Fardous Electronic Recycling!
